DIDs for Kids is our shorthand for the more longwinded “Decentralised Identifiers for Children as an Enabler of Lifelong Data Management‘ project name that more accurately describes what this project is about. This project was initiated by the MyData Scotland Hub back in 2019, put on hold during the pandemic and is now (2022) being re-activated.
The essence of the project is that if a child, and their parents, are given strong identity and data management capabilities from birth, and the organisations they have to engage with use these tools instead of current approaches, then all parties win out over time. The diagram below shows the data flow we envisage in which each and every entity that requires data on a child from birth requests that from the childs data store, and writes their results back to it.
